Gönül Angıner Biography

Gönül was born in 1951 in the small village of Kozağaç in the township of Bozkır in the city of Konya. As a child of parents who were both teachers, she studied elementary school and highschool in Konya. She went to the Middle East Technical University graduating with a degree in both mathematics and physics in 1972. In that same year Gönül got married. She was a teacher in the cities of Erzincan and Manisa Highschools and also taught University Preparation Schools. In 1992 Gönül immigrated to Canada with her husband and 3 children and together they opened a clothing store in Toronto. Gönül was also known as “Gönül Mom” amongst her circle of family and friends because of her great love for children. On July 7, 2005 we lost Gönül leaving behind her husband and three children. A Turkish Community Award given to recognize excellence and achievement of Turkish youth in memory of Gönül Angıner.
